As Dominica moves to maturity as a nation state, standing on the threshold of the new millennium, her singular natural endowment entrusts her with a responsibility to be a model of sustainable global development for small island states.
The establishment of the Youth Environment Service Corps in Dominica greatly assisted in addressing the challenges of environmental stewardship and youth identity crisis. The programme aims to impart vital skills - social, work, life and knowledge of a wide range of environmental issues to young persons, thereby enabling them to become responsible managers of their own future as well as Dominica's future.
The programme proposes to train youth in various modules and fields including:
- Core Module (leadership training)
- History Heritage and Tourism Module
- Wildlife and National Parks Module
- Agriculture Module
- Marine environment Module
- Waste energy and consumption Module
